Team Livingston: Kurt Rice , Caring Hospice Nurse by day, jovial Santa by night…
Kurt Rice has had a unique career that began 37 years ago as a Registered Nurse. He worked for 13 years as an RN, first in a hospital setting and then as a specialty nurse in dialysis. He added to his expertise in the early 80’s by obtaining a Doctorate in Chiropractic Medicine and practiced in that field for nearly 25 years. In 2008, he entered Livingston’s RN Re-entry Program and began his Livingston journey as a home care clinician. He worked within our Home Health Department for 18 months. In 2010 he joined our Hospice team and is now a Hospice Case Manager.
Another of Kurt’s many talents is his uncanny resemblance to a certain famous person popular at this time of year. Throughout the month of December, Kurt can be found preparing for his alternate role by exchanging his nursing scrubs for a jolly red suit (the beard is really his). Each year he volunteers throughout Ventura County, visiting community care facilities bringing smiles, joy, and the compassion of the season to the residents as his alter personality - Santa Claus.
Perhaps Kurt can best be summed up in the words of Hospice Director Mandy Furlong, “Kurt is an exemplary hospice nurse. He exudes kindness and compassion mixed with exceptional skills. It is such an honor to work with this gentle man.” We are blessed to have Kurt on our team comforting those in need and bringing some yuletide spirit as well.
