Team Livingston: Laura K. McAvoy
Laura K. McAvoy began volunteer service to the Livingston Board of Directors in 1984, and has been a stalwart presence to the Board for over thirty years. Before ascending to the role of Chairman of the Board in 2012, Ms. McAvoy served as a capable Vice Chair for nearly a dozen years. In her professional life she is a renowned attorney and brings the same level of attention to detail and concern for quality to the Boardroom as she provides for her clients. Fellow Board Members often comment on how much they appreciate Laura’s passion and commitment to Livingston.
For the agency’s 65th Anniversary Gala Celebration, Ms. McAvoy was made the honoree of the evening for her enduring devotion to the organization. Livingston is not the only organization that has recognized and honored Laura and a complete list would be exhaustive and possibly embarrassing.
She is a strong advocate for building the Livingston Endowment to ensure the organization’s ability to continually respond to the challenges in home healthcare due to growing needs, increasing costs and challenging times.
Under her leadership the agency opened an Ojai Valley branch office and has so far navigated the initial years of implementation of the Affordable Care Act, which led to a nearly 50 percent increase in Livingston’s subsidized care patient population. Remarkably, during this time, Livingston has not turned away one patient due to a lack of funds.
